Yergius, the master thief, can be found in Lawenilothehl in the central building. When approached by a neutral or chaotic PC, Yergius will provide training in Pick Pockets. He will thereafter offer the Thieves' Guild Membership Quest. Once the quest is completed, Yergius will provide training in various skills as long as the PC is not lawful.
Yergius provides three types of training: Complete beginner training, that results in the character obtaining the skill if he or she didn't possess it already; practical training, which is the equivalent of the player using the skill for an extended amount of time, providing an increase of the skill maximum as well as a good chance of a random skill training; and theoretical training, which will improve the player's skill increase die.
Should Yergius be killed, the PC will become head of the Thieves' Guild; as such, the PC will get much better shop prices at the Black Market, but will also be charged more by other shopkeepers[1]. He will never move from his position (unless hostile), but can be swapped with using the :s command. This can be exploited to block doorways or other passages — notably, he can be used to block the exit to the Black Market, which can allow the PC to rob the store (not without risk, however).

Corpse effects[]
Master thieves don't seem to leave corpses.
Monster memory[]
Dressed in soft, dark clothing, this person moves like a cat, but with less noise. The fine cut of the clothes that seem to fade in and out of vision attest to the wealth stolen by this thief of thieves.
