Wands of monster detection will, when 'z'apped, reveal the location of all monsters on the level for one turn. Unfortunately, the dungeon map is hidden at the same time, and the only thing about the monsters that is revealed is their color-coded character. For an ADOM veteran, this is usually enough, but relatively new players would do well to be careful about anything they haven't seen in the game yet.

Cursed wands will not reveal golems, statues, Animated armors, Green blobs, Green slimes, Steel horrors, Steel zombies, or Zombies.


They can be used to determine the type of monsters vaults and tension rooms contain upon arriving on such a dungeon. They may also be used to evade very tough monsters when crossing the Dwarven Halls or other dangerous areas.
