Item Type | Wand |
Artifact? | No |
Weight | 3s |
Danger Level | 1 |
Material | Wood |
When you "z"ap a Wand of Knocking, you will be able to direct a beam in any of the eight directions. Any doors in a direct row with the beam will be unlocked, assuming the wand is uncursed or blessed.
If a locked door is unlocked with a Wand of Knocking, the following message will be produced: "You hear a knocking sound. You barely hear a clicking sound!". If an unlocked or open door is hit by the Wand of Knocking, the following message will be produced: "You hear a knocking sound. The lock of the door clicks several times."
The bolt will not bounce off walls, so can only open doors in a direct line to where the player is currently standing.
A cursed wand acts the exact opposite way - akin to the Magic Lock spell. It will close and lock any doors that its beam touches.
This wand has a range of 4/2/1 for B/U/C respectively. Additional 1 range is added for each 10 character levels.
Desirability[]
It is a useful item for bypassing trapped or possibly trapped doors without danger, or if you don't want to destroy a door that you know to be locked, or are on the run and can't afford the door getting stuck on you. A cursed wand can be used to lock a door and potentially stop or delay a monster pursuing you.
Guaranteed/Common sources[]
Generated as all other generic Loot.
