Vampire is a type of monster in ADOM. They are tough undead monsters that are feared for their melee attack, which has a chance to decrease the PC's Strength or Toughness (or often both) upon damaging hits. Many vampires are encountered in the CoC graveyard, and hordes of them will appear in greater vaults of undead. If the PC is lacking somewhat in defensive stats, they should make sure to take on vampires from a safe distance or else their situation may become increasingly worse.

Corpse effects[edit source]
Chance to increase Toughness by 1, or potential Toughness by 1 if Toughness is at potential. The increase is less likely the higher Toughness is, with less than a 10% chance of working once Toughness is 31 or higher. Cannot increase Toughness higher than 55. Eating a vampire is a chaotic act.
These undead suck the life force from their victims, sometimes visiting a fate worse than death upon them--a continued existence thirsting for the life force of others. The skin is pale when the vampire hungers, taking on a rosy glow shortly after feeding.
