Prior to version 2.3.5, ultimate doppelgangers were called doppelganger kings.
Ultimate doppelgangers are monsters that can mimic the PC. In ASCII-mode they are represented by an @ symbol of the same color as the PC. In tiles-mode they are represented by the same tile as the PC. The sprite on this page is only displayed when using monster detection.
Ultimate doppelgangers are extremely dangerous monsters. They exactly mimic the PC's speed, DV, and PV. On top of that, their attacks ignore PV and have a base damage equal to 20% of the PC's max HP.
Like other doppelgangers, they have a chance to cause confusion for 1d2 turns when they attack, and they deflect all missiles except potions and gold. They will usually fail to use their deflection ability while confused, stunned, or paralyzed.

Corpse effects[]
Only trolls can eat ultimate doppelgangers. Doing so seems to have a 50% chance of raising each of the PC's stats, individually. Increases are unaffected by Attribute potentials.
Monster memory[]
You recoil in confusion from your own mirror image! The strange figure seems to be your identical twin... only more so, somehow. Curiously, your twin seems to be a lot more like you than you yourself ever could be! You start to wonder whether you should continue your life now that you know how perfect you'll never manage to be.
