Thieves picks can be used to lock or unlock doors using the Pick locks skill. Locking can be performed on an open door, closing it in the process.

Cursed picks can sometimes make doors trapped. Unlocking trapped doors with thieves picks seems to always activate traps.

The presence of thieves picks also increases success of Disarm traps skill by ~30% depending on B/U/C status.

Desirability[edit source]

You can easily open doors (and activate their traps) without unlocking them. The only reason you might want thieves picks is that you want the doors to stay around so you can use them in an emergency for keeping monsters at bay; for a Thief, this might be a worthwhile contingency built into your playstyle.

Guaranteed/Common sources[edit source]

They can be obtained in the same manner as all generic loot. A set can be found in the eastern side of the first level of the Pyramid, along with a climbing set and pick axe.

If the PC does not have a set, is a Thief or Assassin, and is not lawful, Yergius will offer to sell them thieves picks at a price of (500 * character level) gold pieces.
