The Wall ( [ )
Item Type Shield
Artifact? Yes
Weight 750s
Danger Level Unknown
Material Iron

The mighty tower shield "The Wall" is a non-guaranteed artifact shield. It appears as a tower shield when unidentified, but can be distinguished from normal iron tower shields by its unusual weight.

Despite its tremendous heft (over six times as weighty as the next heaviest artifact shield, Rolf's Saviour), The Wall is arguably the best shield in the game for those who can use it. Boasting the highest Defensive Value of any item, most monsters will barely be able to lay a finger on the PC who wears it.

The Wall's stats are even with those of the shield of raw steel, lacking the immunities of the latter but also the pesky tendency to turn the character into a writhing mass of primal chaos if one wears it for too long. The stun resistance and decent Toughness increase are just icing on the cake.

Guaranteed/Common sources[]

It can be received as a Paladin crowning gift.

It can also be granted as a precrowning gift or a reward for making use of a potion of uselessness, generated in a surge of power or greater vault, or generated as random loot (albeit very rarely).
