The tattered cloak of the dark souls in a non-guaranteed artifact. It is autocursing, grants invisibility, and reduces Willpower. In addition, Shadows, Slow shadows, Shadow centipedes, Shadow lords, Shadow trolls, and Shadow wyrms are generated friendly while the cloak is equipped. It appears as a tattered cloak when unidentified.
The tattered cloak has an additional lore screen when examined with a scroll of great identify.

It is useful, but somewhat annoying. It offers good DV and PV bonuses, invisibility, and non-artifact cloaks are highly susceptible to item destruction. Unfortunately, it drains satiation rapidly, and it is inconvenient to swap due to it autocursing.
