Why 19 rings? Won't more work?

When dipping piles of rings, a maximum of 19 can be dipped at a time. If you have a stack of 35 Brass Rings, and dip them into a Potion of Exchange, you will end up with a set of 19 random rings and 16 Brass rings. Ascyron 04:45, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

The estimate of 379 rings for a 1.2.0 wish engine is on the low side. The following rings of DL 8 or less have variable stats and therefore may not always stack with others of their ilk:

  • ring of defense (values from -2 to +4 have been observed)
  • ring of protection
  • ring of mental stability (three separate variables)
  • ring of speed (two variables)
  • ring of damage (missile damage on the rings varies)
  • ring of gain attribute (nine different attributes with values ranging from +1 to +4 make this by far the worst offender)

When repeatedly exchanging stacks of 19 rings, the generation of odd-fingered rings that refuse to stack with their more common variants is inevitable. In practice, this causes a slow bleed-off of reactive material. Frustratingly, odd-fingered rings are still considered the same type and several of these rings have a DL of 1, so changing them into more reactive material with readily available potions of raw chaos runs the risk of causing a nasty explosion. 99.100.48.211 03:54, October 28, 2014 (UTC)

As of 1.2.0 r57 only one RoDS can be created by potions of exchange during the course of the entire game. This makes the last Wish Engine tactics obsolete, I believe. 10:33, June 9, 2015 (UTC)
