  • Couple of things regarding books:
    • First, I recall reading that all spellbooks are DL1. However, my tests indicate that is not the case. Anyone got any clarification? Are some spellbooks just really rare and so unlikely to have been found?
      • What class are you using for your testing? Spellbooks are obviously much more common for casters. I don't think I've ever seen, eg. Death Ray, with a non-caster. As far as DL goes, I'm reasonably confident that all books except maybe Wish are DL:1 or, at worst, DL:2. Anything else, even powerful spells like Acid Ball, Death Ray, Petrification, Create Item, etc. can definitely be generated by extended stairhopping session. • Second, what are the other possible effects if you fail to read a book? I've listed a few off the top of my head, anyone else remember any others?
    • Finally, I'm making links on this page to spellbooks as sorted by "arcane" name. If someone else beats me to actually making articles, would you also create redirects from the clerical to arcane names? Ascyron 21:57, September 9, 2009 (UTC)

Since spells are generally capitalized in the game, even as part of the spellbook item name, they should be capitalized in this article. Also, do you propose we use the spellbook item articles to also talk about the effect of the spells themselves, and have "Fire Bolt" redirect to "spellbook of Fire Bolt", for instance? Cause I really don't see a point in having individual articles for both the spells and the books, seeing as all the books work the same way apart from which spells they teach. I think the most sensible method would be to talk about the general properties of spellbooks in this article, and only have articles on the individual spells. 134.155.144.163 23:12, September 9, 2009 (UTC) (Silfir)

  • Yeah, I've been tossing that up in my mind. Do we have separate articles for the book and the spell, or one merged? One format i can see is just to say on the Spellbook of fire bolt (removed red link Ln (talk) 15:50, January 25, 2016 (UTC)) page that "This spellbook can teach you the Fire bolt spell, see that article for details". That would enable better sorting of the information, so we could say create a template for all spell pages, detailing their effect and so on; much the same way as I made a template for items.
    • I think we need to consider it for a while before taking any action. Ascyron 00:29, September 10, 2009 (UTC)

I think the main thing such a setup would enable is lots of confusion and pointless clicking (though I guess wikia would make more money from the additional ad exposure). There is no reason to have the individual spellbook articles contain more than a redirect to the spell in question, with the spell template containing a link "For the properties of the spellbook item itself, check the spellbook article". And I don't mean to sound like a nitpicker, but all spells are capitalized in game in any context. It is Fire Bolt, Disarm Traps, Greater Divine Touch and so on. We should keep it that way in the Wiki, as we should preserve the in-game capitalization for anything else. Silfir 00:39, September 10, 2009 (UTC)

  • I know they are capitalized ingame. However, somewhere earlier in the discussions I recall a consensus being reached that everything should be in lower case. I can't find which talk page it was on, but I'll look.
    • If you really want, I can always create the pages here with correct capitalization and then make redirects from the lower case, so as to make both work. Or the other way round. Ascyron 00:57, September 10, 2009 (UTC)
      • I am pretty sure I said something to the point of "Everything which is lowercase in game should be lowercase in the Wiki". At least I meant it that way. By extension, everything that is uppercase in game should also be uppercase. I've always assumed it would be a natural thing to use the in-game spelling pretty much anywhere... Silfir 01:02, September 10, 2009 (UTC)

i am pretty sure we will need upper case directed into lowercase or other way. I could not care less which one is main topic as long as it is written good.Soirana 16:49, September 10, 2009 (UTC)

Relevance[]

Should we delete this article? I think it is superfluous, given all its information is contained in either Spellbook or Spellcasting. -- anon123 (talk) 21:31, March 1, 2014 (UTC)
