Summon Monsters is a utility spell in ADOM. Each cast creates 4-9 monsters of the same type, provided there is room for them to appear. Monsters can be generated within 4 spaces horizontally, vertically, or diagonally of the PC, and are never generated lined up with the PC along the cardinal directions.

The DL of the level where the spell is cast determines what types of monsters are possible to summon. Monsters that aren't generated on random levels (e.g. Animated tree, Steel golem) cannot be summoned by the spell.

Generated monsters are always either hostile or slightly hostile. If they are created slightly hostile it is possible that they will attack other monsters in the vicinity.

Possible uses for the spell may include:

  • Create meat shields to escape from dangerous monsters.
  • Summon monsters to kill for loot.
  • Summon monsters until a desired monster is generated (possibly for quests, corpses or specific item drops).
  • Summon monsters to kill for experience, weapon skills, etc.

The amount, type, and friendliness of monsters summoned does not depend on spell power, character level, or any attributes.

Extra

Summoned monsters cannot be sacrificed or have their pockets picked.
