Staff of wonder ( ( )
Item865.png
Item Type Melee weapon
Artifact? Yes
Weight 40s
Danger Level Unknown
Material Nonmetallic

The staff of wonder is a non-guaranteed two-handed artifact weapon. When zapped, it functions as a wand of wonder, and recharges quite quickly. As it contains the essence of Chaos and Corruption, it cannot be blessed using holy water (it converts potions it is dipped in to potions of raw chaos). It increases luck, provides confusion resistance, and increases the amount of PP regenerated per tick by 1. It appears as a quarterstaff when unidentified, but due to its color in ASCII it is distinguishable from everything aside from staff of minor volcano summoning.

Blessed Uncursed Cursed
Base recharge time
15 60 120

Staff of wonder benefits from the same recharge time reductions as magic staves.

Desirability[edit source]

Despite the staff's corrupting nature, it can be somewhat useful in the short-term, especially for non-casters. It will still recharge while not being carried, so it can be used while incurring minimal corruption.

Guaranteed/Common sources[edit source]

It can be granted as a precrowning gift or a reward for making use of a potion of uselessness, generated in a surge of power or greater vault, or generated as random loot (albeit very rarely).
