Scroll of luck ( ? )
Item Type Scroll
Artifact? No
Weight 2s
Danger Level 12
Material Paper

Scrolls of luck may affect the PC's luck-related intrinsics when read, depending upon the PC's existing intrinsics:

  • If the PC is cursed, this intrinsic will be removed.
  • Otherwise, the lucky intrinsic will be granted if the PC does not have it.
  • Otherwise, the fate smiles intrinsic will be granted if the PC does not have it and the scroll is not cursed.

If none of the conditions above are met, the scroll will have no effect. Scrolls of luck cannot remove the doomed intrinsic.

Desirability[]

If the PC hasn't found a suitable altar yet, the scroll can be useful for gaining beneficial intrinsics in the early game. In general, the scroll's most useful effect is its ability to uncurse the PC.

Various shoplifting approaches involve the PC becoming cursed; a scroll of luck will enable the PC to immediately uncurse themselves. The scroll is also useful if the PC accidentally becomes cursed, e.g. through karmic backfire.

Scrolls of luck can enable the PC to eat certain corpses which may grant positive effects but also curse the PC in the process (e.g. annis hag), in the knowledge that they will be able to uncurse themselves immediately afterwards.

Guaranteed/Common sources[]

Scrolls of luck can be obtained in the same manner as all generic loot.
