Royal guardian is a type of monster in ADOM. Servants of the former High King, royal guardians are only ever found in royal vaults (unless wished for), and always have a name. Royal guardians become hostile if the PC picks up any gold that they are guarding. They are quite dangerous opponents with penetrating attacks, the ability to disarm and the ability to see through darkness and invisibility. They seem to be generated at high levels, at least twice that of the PC (more testing is needed to verify this). They can sometimes resist an attempt to teleport them.

Royal guardians are perhaps notable for their illogical behaviour in ADOM versions prior to 1.2.0, where they do not react to PCs stealing the gold they were guarding but immediately become hostile if the PC just chats to them (even if (s)he hasn't stolen anything).

Eating a royal guard is an act of disorder that curses the PC, or dooms him/her if already cursed.

Monster memoryEdit

A member of the devoted royal guard, the guardians are almost a race unto themselves; the positions are hereditary and to fail as a guard is to bring shame upon the families that await the return of the High Kings. Royal guardians are polite until duty demands protection of the Kings or their property.
