Red dragon-hide gauntlets are gauntlets in ADOM. They have a base stats of (-2, +0) [+0, +2] and provide intrinsic fire resistance when worn.
They appear as red gauntlets when unidentified — the same as red leather gauntlets, which are made from leather and do not provide fire resistance. They can be distinguished from their leather counterparts due to the -2 to-hit penalty. This, however, can only be checked by equipping them. As all dragon-hide gauntlets are made of iron, players should be careful with these items while using Mist Elven characters.
Desirability[]
Fire resistance is typically the most effective type of resistance for preventing damage to the PC, due to the number of monsters that use fire-based attacks. Red dragon-hide gauntlets themselves are also immune to fire damage and thus will not melt, despite being made of iron. They can also be used to protect rings from fire damage.
Red dragon-hide gauntlets are typically inferior to elemental gauntlets when used as a source of protection from fire. However, they can be generated and/or improved (via Smithing or scrolls of defense and scrolls of protection) to provide better physical protection. Admittedly, even with better stats they still remain destructible through physical or non-fire elemental damage.
