Potions of troll blood modify the PC's natural HP regeneration rate when drunk, unless the PC is a troll in which case the potion has no effect. ("Duh, troll juice.")
The potion's effect is determined by its B/U/C status:
- A blessed potion will reduce the regeneration interval by 4d3 turns.
- An uncursed potion will reduce the regeneration interval by 2d3 turns.
- A cursed potion will increase the HP regeneration interval by 2d3 turns.
The PCs regeneration rate can be observed by drinking a potion of insight or casting the Revelation spell. The lowest achievable interval from potions is 5 turns to regenerate a single hit point. Once that interval is reached, further potions will not provide additional benefit.
Desirability[]
Potions of troll blood are considerably more efficient than troll corpses at reducing the PC's natural HP regeneration interval. With enough of those potions, even a mist elven PC can achieve a superior regeneration rate to that enjoyed by a trollish PC at the start of the game (~1 HP per 20 turns).
Unfortunately these potions are useless for trollish PCs, who can only improve their HP regeneration rate by devouring fellow trolls.
Guaranteed/Common sources[]
They can be obtained in the same manner as all generic loot.
