Papyrus scrolls contain an invitation to visit the Pyramid, written and sent to the PC by Rehetep.
If the PC is not already carrying a papyrus scroll, one will appear on the current level when the PC reaches experience levels 13, 14, 15, and 16. It will not be delivered to certain locations, such as Dwarftown and the Water Dragon Cave, in which case it will instead get generated as soon as the PC visits an eligible level.
The following message is generated when the scroll appears on the level: You suddenly feel ancient magical energies manifest in your vicinity. The message is slightly different when the scrolls appears on the spot the PC is occupying: You suddenly feel ancient magical energies manifest at your feet.
At the PC levels above 13 an extra message is generated: You feel a sense of increasing urgency..
The following messages are generated when the scroll is read at level 13:
The scroll is written in strange hieroglyphs. It reads: "HERO, I AM WAITING FOR YOU." "VISIT MY PALACE IN THE ANCIENT PYRAMID FOR A MEETING." "COME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!" The scroll is signed with "Rehetep".
At level 14 the message changes to:
"HERO, I AM STILL WAITING FOR YOU." "VISIT MY PALACE IN THE ANCIENT PYRAMID FOR A MEETING." "COME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! MY PATIENCE IS LIMITED!"
At level 15 the message changes to:
"HERO, DARE NOT TO INSULT ME." "VISIT MY PALACE IN THE ANCIENT PYRAMID AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!"
At level 16 the message changes to:
"HERO, THIS IS MY FINAL WARNING!" "VISIT MY PALACE IN THE ANCIENT PYRAMID AS SOON AS POSSIBLE OR SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES!"
At level 17 or higher the message changes to:
"HERO, YOU HAVE MADE A GRAVE MISTAKE!"
If the PC flees after meeting Rehetep, the message changes to:
"HERO, I HOPE YOU ENJOYED MY PRESENCE."
After Rehetep has been defeated the message changes to:
"DAMN!"
Female PCs will be addressed as "HEROINE".
Desirability[]
The scroll provides valuable information to new players and is of limited use for players who already know when the Pyramid becomes accessible. It, however, can be polymorphed using potions of exchange and potions of raw chaos without any danger of explosion for the latter.
