While practically any item can be thrown at your enemies, most will do almost no damage. This page lists items that are designed to serve as (effective) missiles. 'Pure' missiles, as such, are much more likely to be lost/destroyed when thrown/fired — depending on missile type and B/U/C status — but also can be more readily reloaded when accompanied by the corresponding missile weapons, and some types can be mass produced by fletchery and/or 'milking'.
While equipped, iron missiles will cause 0.5 points of damage per turn to mist elf PCs. Wearing gauntlets negates this damage.
