Gives the PC a chance to identify lawful/chaotic actions (s)he performs.

Manual info[]

Law allows you to notice (maybe) whenever you go beyond law and commit a chaotic act. It will also make known to you particularly lawful acts.

Each time the PC performs a lawful/chaotic action and the Law skill check is passed, the game will inform the player of the nature of the action with a message:

  • You feel as if transgressing some law message will be displayed to indicate chaotic actions.
  • You feel as if behaving in proper form message will be displayed to indicate lawful actions.

The skill is typically next to useless since it notifies the player of an alignment change after the actual change — if the player was trying to make his/her PC a Paragon of Order or was pursuing a specific restriction on alignment manipulation, the restrictions had already been broken. This, however, can be used as an early indication of a failure in case the action was performed accidentally or a valuable piece of information for future reference.

Advanced uses[]

Only Duelists and Paladins (if they started with lawful alignment) are trained in the Law skill.

The skill, however, can be learned from Tywat Pare after the PC successfully completes both of his quests: Kill Kranach and Kill Hotzenplotz. Note that completing the first quest is a relatively tough challenge for weak characters, while the target of the second one is neutral towards the PC and making him hostile without performing chaotic actions requires the use of special tactics (a number of which are considered bug abuse by some members of ADOM community).

The skill is trained automatically when the player receives the messages about his/her actions.
