Kranf Niest, the mad doctor is an NPC found in Lawenilothehl. He appears to be always busy planning experiments, and serves very little purpose in the game. He will, however, reward the PC for completing the Kill Jharod quest on Hotzenplotz's behalf. This reward involves injecting the PC with the Healing skill at the cost of -1d3 to Learning, Willpower and Appearance permanently, and some corruption (scroll of dark predictions shows a total corruption increase of 1%). If the PC already has the Healing skill, the reward will instead be a stethoscope and scalpel.

Note that when feeding the Healing skill into the PC's brain, the mad doctor must remove the PC's headgear. This occurs even if the helmet is cursed — making this one way of losing a cursed helmet, should the need to arise. Otherwise, it is recommended to remove the headgear before collecting the reward. The operation will also stun and confuse the PC for a few turns, after (s)he wakes up at the other end of Lawenilothehl.

Kranf Niest's name is an anagram of Frank Stein — a reference to Mary Shelley's novel "Frankenstein".

Before you stands an old man with wild eyes and long, unwashed hair. His skin is splotched and scarred from alchemical experiments gone awry. He is dressed in a long robe which may once have been white, but is now stained a variety of colors including blood red, ichor green, sulfuric yellow, and some other less pleasant hues. He smells of chemicals, filth, and decay.
