Gray oozes are monsters in ADOM.
Like ochre jellies, gray oozes are covered in acid. This means that if they are attacked with a weapon that is vulnerable to acid — which is any that is not made of eternium, stone, crystal, or glass, and is not an artifact — the weapon may corrode. Corrosion causes the to-hit and damage of the weapon to decrease; if the weapon gets corroded too many times, it may eventually be destroyed. Fighting them in unarmed melee will either damage the PC's gauntlets if they are wearing any, or injure the PC if they are not; neither of these effects will occur if the PC has acid resistance. In any case, attacking with missiles or magic is usually recommended if possible.
Gray oozes are also breeders, and resist acid attacks. Even if protected against the damaging effects of their acid, PCs taking them in melee range should also be careful not to underestimate their melee attack; especially if they are left to breed and surround the PC.

Monster memory[]
Beware of these stone-colored blobs of acidic slime! Smart adventurers won't touch them with a ten-foot pole; those foolish enough to try find themselves with only a *five* foot pole and a well-fed ooze. By the time the shock at the sheer corrosiveness of these creatures wears off, the thing has usually replicated itself and surrounded you; many a brave hero has been overcome by such overwhelming odds. Fortunately, they do not possess any significant intelligence, and act only on instinct.
