Fortune cookies are a common type of food. When eaten, a fortune cookie message will be read and displayed if the PC is sufficiently literate. This trains the Literacy skill.

Although individual cookies do not provide a large amount of satiation, they are relatively weight-efficient, and can be a useful supplement to the player's food supply. A fortune cookie weighs only 1.5% as much as a large ration while providing a respectable 20% of the ration's satiation.

As fortune cookies are quick to eat, they may also serve as a stopgap when the PC is hungry but doesn't have time to eat a larger meal (e.g. during a battle).

Satiation aside, the Literacy training provided by fortune cookies can also be valuable to many PCs.
