Metal caps are a basic type of headgear in ADOM. Their stats, and weight, depend on the metal they are made of. The basic iron-made metal cap has base stats of [+0, +1], the mithril and adamantium caps have [+0, +2] (a puzzling anomaly, as adamantium is usually superior to mithril), with the eternium cap boasting a respectable [+0, +4]. These caps are otherwise entirely mundane, though mithril and better caps are invulnerable to fire.
Metal caps of all metals appear as "metal cap" when unidentified, though a metal cap of iron will still display as "metal cap" when worn. All other metal caps will have their material identified when worn.
Desirability[]
Metal caps appear early in the game and offer a valuable point of PV. The higher metal caps sometimes become neglected in favor of magical headgear such as the helm of mental stability, but they are easy to find, often have the best base armor stats, and can be smithed.
Guaranteed/Common Sources[]
They can be found in the same ways as any generic loot. Thrundarr may offer mithril equipment, including a mithril cap, as a reward for one of his quests. Eternium caps are very likely to be dropped by a killed chaos knight or chaos warrior.
