Torgall, the dwarven innkeeper is a unique NPC found in the Green Griffon Inn on the eastern side of Dwarftown. In exchange for one gold piece, he will tell the PC a rumor and give him/her a small bit of ale. If the PC has too much ale, (s)he can become drunk.

Special abilities[]

  • Occasionally shrugs off bolts and other resistible magic

Common stats[]

Level: 4, DV: 36, PV: 20, Hits: 75, Attacks: 3, Damage: 14-17. Speed: 100.

Corpse effects[]

Torgall does not seem to leave a corpse.

Monster memory[]

A stout dwarf with a portly face. He is not as massive as many of his brothers but still a strong person. His red beard is finely combed and his face is very handsome, especially so for a dwarf. Nonetheless a number of small scars reveals a former life of hardship, filled with mortal danger. The eyes appear to be sad in some mysterious way, as if grief-struck by a misery suppressed with the iron will so typical of dwarves. Despite those marks his occupation as an innkeeper seems to please him in a modest and earth-bound way one normally would not expect from an experienced adventurer.

Rumors

The first six times that the PC buys an ale from Torgall, he will give certain (fixed) messages that relate to particular quests or artifacts. After these six hints are given, he will tell a random fortune after selling an ale.

  • Here ye can get the rumors. If ye want the hard facts, talk to our elder!
  • Two of the greatest treasures of our race are an axe and a shield of one of our forefathers. No idea where the axe is but I hear that the shield can be gained from our elder if ye prove yer mettle!
  • Be careful with witches. A brilliant mage from my hometown lost his mind over one such beast and never recovered.
  • Rumor has it that our world is a living being and has a fiery heart. I wonder if Ancardia is female and could fall in love with me...
  • Legend has it that a mystic of our race is hiding in a secret place in this city. It is said that he will reward generously the first being of pure heart he meets.
  • I always yearned to see the halls of our forefathers. They were masters of mechanics and magic and their creations must be awesome to behold!
