Everburning torch ( ] )
Item Type Tool
Artifact? No
Weight 10s
Danger Level 1
Material Wood

Everburning torches are a rare type of torch that, when equipped, will automatically light itself, and never go out.

As well as being equipped in the tool slot, they can be equipped as weapons. An everburning torch may not seem like a typical type of weapon, but is definitely viable, as the damage rating is respectable and using the torch even trains, and benefits from, the Clubs & Hammers weapon skill. Unlike a regular torch (pre-v.1.2.0), it deals damage once instead of twice, and thus only gets reduced by PV once. It is also noteworthy that successfully using one as a weapon will sometimes print the message "you hit the -foo- mutilating him/her/it horribly".

Torches may also confuse bees.

Desirability[edit source]

They are extremely useful as an indefinite source of light that can be equipped in the tool slot rather than the amulet slot, and quite valuable when fighting spellcasters that regularly cast darkness. Since wearing a light source also extends line of sight, archers and other users of ranged weapons will enjoy the luxury of being able to wear one pretty much all the time.

Guaranteed/Common sources[edit source]

They can be obtained in the same manner as all generic loot, although they're extremely rare. Orcish Paladins and Priests start out with one.
