Chain mail is one of the basic types of armor in ADOM. It comes in six varieties based on the material from which it is made.
For a unique seventh type of chain mail, see elven chain mail.
Desirability[]
Chain mail provides the third-best protection among base armor groups (ring, scale, chain, splint, plate) and is relatively powerful in the early game compared to cloth and leather armor. It is quite heavy, so a weak character cannot easily carry chain mail, other equipment, and decent amounts of loot without becoming Burdened or Strained.
Guaranteed/Common Sources[]
Chain mail can be obtained in the same manner as all generic loot. Several melee classes start with chain mail. The special grave in the Eerie Glade contains a truesilver chain mail. The Grizzled dwarven veteran drops an eternium chain mail when he dies.
