Daggers are basic melee weapons which come in a variety of materials. They belong to the Daggers & knives weapon group for melee purposes, and can also be used as missiles under the Thrown daggers weapon skill.

Desirability[]

Daggers are typically less damaging than other basic one-handed weapons (spears, long swords, etc.) but also very lightweight. Due to these features they are less often used as a main weapon, but are great as an offhand weapon if the PC specializes in two weapon combat.

Assassins start with level 4 in Thrown daggers, enabling them to make good use of any daggers they can find.

Crystal daggers are low DL items, which do not get corroded by acid, making them a good early-game option for fighting gray oozes and ochre jellies.

Guaranteed/Common Sources[]

Several classes start with one or more daggers. Assassins' heir gift is a poisonous adamantium dagger, while Thieves receive an adamantium dagger of penetration, quite a powerful weapon even in the late game. Finally, Khelavaster will provide the PC with an eternium dagger when met on D:16.

Iron daggers are very frequently dropped by fungoids in the Fungal Caves, and can be amassed in bulk this way.

All of that aside, they can be obtained in the same manner as all generic loot.
