Daggers are one of the basic types of one-handed melee weapon in ADOM. They belong to the Daggers & Knives weapon group, and benefit from and train the corresponding weapon skill.


DesirabilityEdit

Daggers provide less base damage than other basic ADOM weapons (spears, long swords, etc.) but have a significantly lower weight. Due to these features they are less often used as a main weapon, but are great as an offhand weapon if the PC specializes in two weapon combat. Daggers, unlike some other weapon types (typically swords) can be effectively used as missiles due to the existence of Thrown daggers weapon skill. Assassins start with level 4 in Thrown daggers (and a stack of daggers) which can be put to great use in the early game.

Crystal daggers are low DL items, which do not get corroded by acid, making them a good early-game option for fighting gray oozes and ochre jellies.

Guaranteed/Common SourcesEdit

They can be obtained in the same manner as all generic loot. For some reason, iron daggers are very frequently generated as drops from fungoids in the Fungal Caves. Several classes start with a dagger as a main/offhand weapon. Assassins' heir gift is a poisonous adamantium dagger, while Thieves receive an adamantium dagger of penetration, quite a powerful weapon even in the late game. Finally, Khelavaster will provide the PC with an eternium dagger when met on D:16.
