Not to be confused with artifacts, special weapons are rare but non-unique weapons that carry 'special' modifiers that differ from more generic prefixes and suffixes. Unlike generic weapons, special weapons cannot be generated with generic prefix/suffixes but can be wished for with their special modifiers. For example, one could wish for a mace of destruction but could not wish for a mace of devastation, nor could they find a 'mace of destruction of devastation'.
