Berzio potions are Potions that, when drunk, modify the players satiation. When thrown at a hostile animal they make it neutral.
They appear to be a reference to the lore of a text-based RPG, Zork.
Desirability[]
The ability to calm animals is occasionally useful.
Guaranteed/Common sources[]
They can be obtained in the same manner as all generic loot.
Greater Identify information[]
----------------------------- blessed berzio potion---------------------------- When used in melee combat it grants a +0 bonus to hit and causes 1d2 points of damage. When used as a missile it grants a +0 bonus to hit and causes 1d2 points of damage.
Satiation value[]
The precise satiation of berzio potions is slightly randomized. A typical blessed potion will grant ~230 satiation, an uncursed potion will grant ~155 satiation, and a cursed potion will lower satiation by an average of 8 points - a negligible loss.
Testing[]
To determine satiation value, several tests were performed. A character with base food usage (read: 1 unit lost per turn). The character would wait until the turn after he went from sated to "normal", and drink a potion. He would then count the number of turns required to go back to normal. From this, satiation value was determined. A slightly more complex system was used to determine satiation loss from cursed potions.
Blessed[]
Ten potions were drunk. In order, they gave 235, 218, 229, 226, 226, 240, 249, 235, 223 and 222 units of satiation - a mean value of 230.
Uncursed[]
Ten potions were drunk. In order, they gave 152, 156, 155, 149, 149, 167, 163, 159, 155 and 154 units of satiation - a mean value of 156.
Cursed[]
Ten potions were drunk. In order, they gave -6, -8, -10, -15, -6, -3, -6, -5, -24 and -1 units of satiation, a mean value of -8.
Calming animals[]
Thrown berzio potions can be used to calm hostile animals, which is especially useful on cats.
